Bubblegum Wrappers

So there were these two sisters who really loved each other. They were about 5 and 7 years old. In the age where children didn’t like hanging out with their siblings, these two were inseparable. Of course they had their low moments, but we are not going to focus on that. Let us focus on when one sister learnt that her older sister had magic powers.

One day, the older sister decided to show the younger sister a magic trick that she had learnt all by herself. Do you remember old bubblegum? Like Big-G and Pussycat? Well, big sister could take any of these wrappers, wrap them into a ball, bury them in a field between their house and the shops and when the came back to the ‘grave’ the next day, VIOLA! The bubblegum wrapper would have transformed into either 5 cents or 10 cents. One Pussycat cost 5 cents and one Big-G cost 10 cents. So it meant that the more candy one ate, the more you were able to buy!

Hipilicious was so excited to learn that Njenva could perform this particular magic trick. What. Till she decided to be greedy entrepreneurial and decided to ‘bury’ her own wrappers. When she came back the next day, the wrappers hadn’t transformed into coins. They had just become dirty wrappers. She tried this for a while and gave up because none of her wrappers were transforming. She kept this to herself in fear of letting Njenva know because this would show that she had been greedy entrepreneurial. She couldn’t also ask any adults about it because she had been sworn to secrecy.

Fast forward to 15 years later.

Njenva, if I gave you bubblegum wrappers now, would you be able to bury them and transform them into cash?

What’s funny? You could do it when we were younger.

Were you already conning me when we were like 5 years old!?

Hipilicious, the field was on my way to school every morning. And it was my first stop in the morning before I went to school everyday ……

I guess that’s why Hipilicious doesn’t trust me anymore……..

  1. She didn’t call you a crook? Only you’re the good type. The ones who bury wrappers and turn them into money. All the other ones take money and turn it into bubblegum wrappers.

  2. Hahahahahahaha!!! My big sis played this trick on me but me being the kimbelembele, I announced it to the family. (I was so proud of her!) That’s until my mum went to her change jar and noticed coins were missing at a very fast rate.
