Hotel Review – Sarova Shaba, Samburu

Standard

During my birthday, Nyaguthii and I went on a road trip to Sarova Shaba in Samburu. We really had a blast especially since the staff at Sarova Shaba were just exceptional. I have never experienced such great customer service anywhere in the world!

We had a few options of hotels and lodges to select from and we made the choice to go for Shaba only because of a photo we saw of their swimming pool. We do not regret our decision at all! Infact, 2 weeks later, we are still talking about the lodge!

The drive from Nairobi is pretty comfortable, about 5 hours drive. And the drive from the turn off on the main road after Isiolo isn’t too rough. It however is abit bumpy and one needs to exercise caution.

The lodge is perfect in every sense of the word. The rooms were clean and well supplied with everything one would need. The lodge itself is in very good condition. We visited during a very low season due to the Kenyan General Election but everything was spotlessly clean and there were staff available in every department – Front Office, Massage, Entertainment, etc.

We really enjoyed the food. We enjoyed it too much! What was refreshing was that we could make our orders for ANYTHING that we wanted and if it was available, they had no reservations about preparing it for us. We were so stuffed that one day all we wanted were mushrooms and soup and this was prepared for us – delicious all the time.

The biggest asset here is the staff. They are simply AMAZING. From the front office to the waiters to the chefs, all the staff at this lodge are amazing. They went out on a limb to make sure that we were well taken care of and fully pampered. They were concerned and were ready to answer any queries that we had or sort out any issues that came up. We were blown away by their spectacular service!! They were very keen and eager to provide top notch service, very friendly, thoughtful and kept on going the extra mile. During meals, whether it was just us or when other guests were there, chefs came to check on us, thank us for being there while waiters / waitresses kept on doing the same; and the same was replicated at reception, in the spa…this culture is to be embodied.

And yes, the swimming pool didn’t disappoint! It was awesome and located near trees so there was a good mixture of the sun and shade.

We are definitely going back to Sarova Shaba! Some photos for your enjoyment!
